3 Carpet Cleaning Hacks Every Homeowner Should Know!
Carpet cleaning is a task often dreaded by a lot of individuals. Some stains aren’t just difficult to remove, most often than not, doing so can also be time-consuming. Truly, it is worth it to hire a professional! Our friends at Lighthouse Cleaning Services, who are professional carpet cleaners in Enterprise, AL, told us that many times people try do a professional grade cleaning at home and it just doesn’t cut it. But we understand, sometimes you just have to roll up your sleeves and do it in a pinch! If the thought of cleaning your carpet daunts you, here are some of the best carpet cleaning hacks that you’d want to learn to make life easier for you.
1. Keeping Your Carpet Smelling Fresh
Undoubtedly, the carpet is one of those areas at home where it collects moisture, dust and odor most. While there are available deodorizers in the market, why not make one? They’re easy, and cost-effective too! You only need baking soda and some essential oils. A cheaper alternative to essential oils would be fragrance oils, but essential oils also offer therapeutic properties, so if you want those added benefits, go with essential oils instead.
In a container, add about 10-20 drops of your favorite essential oil. Personally, I would love to add Orange and Lavender essential oil for that relaxing and fresh scent. Make sure that you mix the oils thoroughly with the baking soda. You may want to store this in a tight glass container and shake some of your combined EO and baking soda mixture onto your carpet. Leave it for about 5 minutes – then vacuum. You’ll notice that your carpet will smell and look cleaner altogether.
2. Stain Removal with an Iron Trick
Who needs expensive carpet cleaning solutions when you can make a powerful one at home, using ingredients and tools that you already have? If you’ve tried different spot cleaning methods and can’t get rid of the stain from your carpet, this is for you.
For this method, you’d need a towel, iron, vinegar, and water. Mix three parts water with one part vinegar, and dampen your towel with the solution. Before getting started, make sure that you run your carpet with a vacuum to make sure there is no debris left. Once you’re done, put the towel over the stain and apply heat over the moist towel with your iron. You would notice that the stain starts to lift from the carpet and transferred over to the towel. Continue the process until the stain has been removed.
3. DIY Carpet Deep Cleaner
While using a vacuum can get rid of the dust and debris that’s on the surface of your carpet, you also need to ensure that you perform a deep cleaning every once in a while. This will get rid of all the dust, mites and other allergens that are deep beneath the surface of your carpet. You’ll need 2 tablespoons of dish soap, 3/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup of white vinegar, 2 tablespoons of fabric softener, 1 gallon of hot water, 5 drops of essential oils.
Mix all of the ingredients together to clean not just the surface but also those areas that a regular vacuum cleaner won’t reach. Do this at least 1-2 times a month.
Remember, some carpets aren’t the same, so you may have to do some tweaking to the above-mentioned cleaning hacks to make it work with your carpet. With a bit of time and patience, you’ll have a well-maintained carpet that will prolong the life of your carpet.
