How to Choose the Best Smoked Glass for Your Bathroom

Choosing smoked glass for your shower door rather than transparent glass has its benefits. If you have an existing glass door in your shower and you want to make the change to smoked glass, there are still some things that you have to take into consideration, because smoked glass also comes in different types. Take a look at these things to help you decide on the most suitable smoked glass door for your bathroom.

Framed, semi-frameless or frameless

Just like clear glass doors, you can also get options for smoked glass wet rooms, either framed, semi-frameless or frameless. Keep in mind though that compared to framed smoked glass doors, the semi-frameless and frameless varieties are much more expensive. But they are a lot easier to clean because there are few to no metal implements that hinder you from cleaning the entire glass. If you are ready to shell out money for your glass door, then you can go for the latter two types. They also add a touch of sophistication to the entire bathroom.

Opacity

There are different levels of opacity that smoked glass doors offer. The thicker the opacity, the lesser the chances of visibility inside the shower. When you go shopping for your smoked glass door, you can ask the supplier to show you different opacity options that you can choose from. Make sure to select the one that will give you your required coverage and privacy.

Level of Privacy

Compared to transparent glass which does not offer a semblance of privacy to the person who is inside the shower, a smoked glass door is quite the opposite. It will give you different levels of privacy depending on the opacity of the glass that you opt for.

Design

If you are into designs and patterns, you can have your smoked glass in the pattern that you want. Most suppliers have ready-made patterned smoked glass doors, but they can make an exception for you if you have a design or pattern in mind. Keep in mind though that customising the pattern on your smoked glass door will set you back more than if you go with the pre-patterned one they offer.

Sliding or pivoting

Smoked glass doors can also be sliding or rotating. If you have a small bathroom, then a sliding door is most suitable as it will not take up more space when you open or close it. A pivoting door is the most common type among households. Take measurements of your bathroom so that you can see which kind of door suits it best.

Opting for smoked glass over transparent glass will afford you the privacy that you need. Other people in the house may want to use the bathroom while you are in the shower; having smoked glass for your shower door will allow multiple people to use the bathroom at once. You can also forgo the use of blinds on the side of the wall that looks out of the bathroom. You don’t have to worry about maintaining blinds in the bathroom with heavily smoked glass.
