Moving Into A New Home: Why Cleaning The Carpet Is A Must

There’s nothing more exciting than moving into a brand new home space. On moving day,  you get to start turning your new space into the home of your dreams by setting up all your furniture and putting up any finishing touches. But before you start making the place a bit homier, the first thing to do is make sure you get all the pre-installed carpets cleaned and ready. If your home comes with carpeting, you’ll need to clean it out before you even move in to make sure you’re starting things off on the right foot. While carpet cleaning might seem superfluous at this stage, don’t assume that the previous tenants took the time to clean everything before leaving. If you’re someone who likes to keep carpets clean and protect their home at all costs, here are a few reasons why getting home carpets cleaned before moving in is an absolute must.

Get Rid of Any Post-Moving Debris

Even if the previous homeowners left their home in a totally spotless condition, don’t forget that the act of moving itself can get pretty dirty. Even if tenants have painstakingly cleaned every inch of their old home before packing up, all the shifting, moving furniture, and bringing up boxes from the basement can take its toll on your home rug. After a move, parts of the home can become exposed after being covered by furniture or other objects for years. Dust that had previously settled becomes airborne again and finds its way back onto the surface of your rug. This means that even if that rug just went to the dry cleaners, it truly can’t hurt to send it back for a once-over. Even if you can’t see the dirt or dust that’s settled, you want to make absolutely sure you’re not moving into a dirty home. Your rug can trap dust and dirt particles that can lead to issues with allergies and general health later on. Dry cleaning can be expensive, and you don’t want to have to wait until your rug is absolutely filthy to get it looked at. Before you even more into your new home, have a professional thoroughly clean your rug so you can be certain you’re starting with a fresh slate. You won’t have to worry about allergens, dust, or dirt clogging up your new space.

Don’t Assume Your Carpet Has Been Cleaned

While it’s nice to think that previous tenants or landlords “turn over” apartments or houses before new tenants move in, it’s simply not always the case. In busier areas, landlords simply don’t have time (or won’t take the time) to spruce up your new digs before you move in. Unless your home comes pre-furnished, you’ll be looking at a totally gutted residence that hasn’t been cleaned or dusted since moving-out day. If your rug looks like it hasn’t been cleaned in awhile, it’s probably festering with bacteria and debris not just from the previous tenants, but from all the tenants, movers, and prospective buyers who have set foot on the property. If you’re serious about keeping your home as clean as it can possibly be, you don’t want to assume that your rug is going to be freshly cleaned before you move in. In the process of moving, all kinds of things can get shifted around, resulting in new stains, footprints, and other dirty byproducts of the upheaval. Before moving in, take the time to at least do a thorough job of vacuuming if you’re not going to have your rug professionally treated.

Start with a Clean Slate

Even if you’re not worried about germs, dust, and debris, it’s always a good idea to get your space freshened up before you start moving in your belongings. In addition to changing the locks, checking the water pressure, and getting the entire space fumigated, you’ll want to clean your carpet just for good measure. Even if you have nothing to worry about in terms of mold or moisture issues, getting your rug freshly cleaned will help you start off your tenancy on the right foot. You won’t have to deal with a problem popping up right after you’ve moved all your heavy furniture and boxes into the living room, and you won’t have to deal with the hassle of spot-treating or vacuuming a carpet once you’ve already set up your room exactly the way you want it. This is the time when you can afford to actually get your rug totally clean without moving everything around. Why not go the extra mile by having it professionally treated?
